ΕΚΠΑ: Προκηρύχθηκε το Μεταπτυχιακό "Southeast European Studies: Politics, History, Economics" (2023-2024)

The Master’s Programme in Southeast European Studies: Politics, History, Economics (SEE), was the first English-language postgraduate programme at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) and belongs to the University’s Department of Political Science and Public Administration. Founded in 1999, the Master’s Programme has already completed 24 years of operation.

SEE Studies was designed from the start as an international Master. For almost a quarter of a century, we have been bringing students together from across Southeastern Europe and beyond to learn about the region. Until now, our Programme has more than 500 alumni from 42 different countries.

The SEE Studies programme was founded in the immediate aftermath of the Kosovo conflict, at a time of violent upheaval in Southeastern Europe. Initially created as part of the Royaumont Process following the Yugoslav wars, SEE Studies had the aim of contributing to the promotion of peace, democracy and reconciliation in the region. Subsequently, the Programme has witnessed Southeastern Europe’s transformation from a war zone to a region on a slow road to integration into the European Union.

The war in Ukraine has inaugurated a new phase of upheaval in Europe. Early consequences for Southeastern Europe have included an initial unblocking of EU Enlargement. At this important time, with new developments likely to unfold rapidly, comprehending this key European region is more important than ever. This is the mission of our programme, which aims to provide an interdisciplinary understanding of Southeastern Europe, combining perspectives from political science, history, economics, international relations and international law.

The Programme has an excellent student-teacher ratio, and a strong international character, actively encouraging the participation of students from around the world. Programme Alumni are employed across the globe in government, business, the academia, NGOs and international organizations.

For the academic year 2023 – 2024, the Programme will receive up to thirty (30) graduate students. It is an intensive, one-year programme, taught face-to-face and primarily addressed to graduates with a first degree in the social sciences and humanities (politics, sociology, economics, political and social history, social anthropology, Balkan studies, journalism). Εligible to apply are graduates of Greek universities or foreign universities officially recognised by the Hellenic Republic.

The Programme charges tuition fees of €3,600. Students who are citizens of Western Balkans are eligible to apply for a scholarship.

There is a rolling admission process. The Selection Committee reserves the right to call candidates for interview.
